The Linton Babe Ruth team opened the 2008 campaign by hosting Mobridge (SD) in a doubleheader on June 2, and the visitors took both games.

Cordell Goodshield fired a 1-hit shutout as Mobridge blanked Linton, 8-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. Mobridge got all the scoring it needed by pushing a run across in the top of the first inning. Neither team scored again until Mobridge scored another run in the top of the 4th, and the visitors tacked on 3 runs in the 5th, 2 in the 6th and another in the 7th to complete the scoring.

Goodshield walked 3 and struck out 14 batters in 7 innings while completing the shoutout. Levi Roemmich took the loss for Linton. He allowed 8 runs on 8 hits with 8 walks and 4 strikeouts in 7 innings. Kelsey Larson doubled in the 6th to account for Linton’s only hit of the game.

Mobridge 10 Linton 5

Mobridge scored 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning to pull out a 10-5 victory and complete the sweep over Linton.

Mobridge scored a run in the top of the first, and two more in the 2nd to open up a 3-0 lead, but Brett Ekstein’s single in the bottom of the second brought in Nolan Meidinger and Tanner Purintun to cut the lead to 3-2. Linton scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead, but that would be the final run of the night for the home team.

Mobridge tied the game (5-5) with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th inning, before scoring 5 runs in the top of the final inning to take the lead for good. The game was eventually called due to darkness before Linton had a chance to bat in the bottom of the frame.

Skylar McCollum picked up the victory for Mobridge, while Lukas Holzer took the loss for Linton. David Schuetz (run), Purintun (run) and Ekstein (2 RBI) each picked up hits for Linton.
