County holds primary election

The Emmons County Primary election was held on Tuesday, June 10. There were a total of 841 ballots cast.

Editor’s Note: A Special Primary Election will be held for the Emmons County Commisioners in Districts 1 and 5, due to an error on the ballot instructions for those races. A date for the special election will be determined at a later date. District 3 has just two candidates, and both will automatically be on the General Election ballot in November.

Results of the remaining races are as follows:

• Commissioner-District 3: Incumbent Alvin Tschosik 145, Michael A. Kunz 113, (4 write-ins). Tschosik and Kunz will both be on the November ballot.

• Representative for U.S. Congress: Republican Duane Sand 432, Democrat Incumbent Earl Pomeroy 296, (0 write-ins). Pomeroy and Sand will both be on the November ballot.

• District 28 State Senator: Incumbent Robert Erbele (Rep.) 428, Alan Bergman (Dem.) 276, (1 write-in). Erbele and Bergman will be on the November ballot.

• District 28 State Representative: Incumbents Michael Brandenburg (Rep.) 391 and William Kretschmar (Rep.) 371, Isadore Gross (Dem.) 273, Kristen Vetter (Dem.) 256, (2 write-ins). Brandenburg, Kretschmar, Gross and Vetter will all be on the November ballot.

• Governor of N.D.: Incumbent John Hoeven (Rep.) 456, Tim Mathern (Dem.) 279, (1 write-in). Hoeven and Mathern will be on the November ballot.

• State Auditor: Incumbent Robert Peterson (Rep.) 425, Daryl Splichal (Dem.) 260 (1 write-in). Peterson and Splichal will be on the November ballot.

• State Treasurer: Incumbent Kelly Schmidt (Rep.) 425, Mitch Vance (Dem.) 263 (1 write-in). Schmidt and Vance will both be on the November ballot.

• Insurance Commissioner: Adam Hamm (Rep.) 417, Jasper Schneider (Dem.) 262 (1 write-in).

• Public Service Commissioner: Brian Kalk (Rep.) 416, Cheryl Bergian (Dem.) 264 (1 write-in).

• Supt. of Public Instruction: Incumbent Wayne Sanstead (Rep.) 432, Max Laird (Dem.) 266 (0 write-ins).

• State Measure #1: No: 432 Yes: 221 (66-34%).

Two North Dakota Supreme Court Justices, and four South Central District Judges ran unopposed in the primary election.

Incumbent Justices Mary Maring and Daniel Crothers received 601 and 576 votes, respectively, in Emmons County.

In the race for South Central District Judge, incumbents Thomas Schneider (596), Donald Jorgensen (593), Gail Hagerty (580) and David Reich (572) will run unopposed in the November election.
