The Lady Gophers held a 30-27 lead with just over a minute to go, but Cindy Silvernagels jumper ended a 3:40 scoring drought for H-M-B, and started the Lady Tigers final push. Silvernagel added a pair of free throws to put H-M-B on top (31-30) to stay with :37 left, and Laura Rambough capped the scoring with a set of free throws with just :17 left. Silvernagel, Heidi Scherr and Meriah McLeish scored 6 points apiece to lead H-M-B, while Kim Lautt and Theresa Kalmbach netted 6 points each to lead Kulm.s 25 YEARS AGO Sept. 2, 1983Linton and Zeelandthe two favorites for the South Central Conference football crownopened the season in Linton, and the home-standing Lions registered a 26-0 shutout. Al Schmidt rushed for 105 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown, and Jon Richter hit on 7 of 10 passes for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Lions. Jeff Dockter carried 22 times for 99 yards in a losing effort for the Vikings. 30 YEARS AGO Sept. 1 and 2, 1978Emmons Central and Linton opened their football campaigns with lopsided, shut-out victories. Emmons Central rolled over Herreid (SD), 34-0, as Knight quarterbacks Dale Roehrich and Kevin Keller combined to complete 20 of 32 pass attempts for 336 yards. Emmons Central tight ends Greg Nagel and Francis Geffre each hauled in 5 receptions for 140 and 132 yards, respectively, and a touchdown apiece. Linton whipped homestanding Parshall, 68-0, in a Saturday afternoon match-up, as Mitch Bosch rushed for 105 yards on 7 carries. Lion Quarterback Paul Balliet connected on 6 of 7 passes for 102 yards, with Al Hulm catching 2 for 34 yards. |
