Legislative Report

District 28

By Sen. Robert Erbele

Happy New Year to everyone in District 28. I hope that you had a very blessed Christmas season and were able to celebrate the true reason for the season with family and loved ones.

The 63rd Legislative session will be gearing up next week, and the purpose of this article is to give you our contact information as well as some important deadlines that you will need to be aware of.

The Legislature will convene on Jan. 8th. We begin by hearing the Governor’s State of the State address, and then begin our committee work that afternoon. There are a number of agency bills and other bills that have been pre filed, so we will have bills to vote on by the third day of session.

For anyone who has a need that you feel the legislature needs to address you will need to get us the information very soon. Many people think that they can submit a request any time during the session, but that is not the case. Rep. Brandenburg and Rep. Kretschmar have to have all of their bills submitted by January 21st, and I have until January 28th.

It looks like it will be a very busy and intense legislative session with all the dynamic changes that are happening in North Dakota coupled with all the uncertainty that is going on in Washington, D.C. We will do our best to keep you informed and welcome your input on the issues that concern you. E-mail is a good way to get information to us. My address is rerbele@ nd.gov, and the House members are mbrandenburg@ nd.gov and wkretschmar@ nd.gov.

You may also call the toll free number 1-888-635-3447 and leave a message. These messages go to our computer and are a good way for you to weigh in on individual bills. We are open to meeting with any of your community groups on weekends if we can work out the schedule.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to serving you.
