Douglas Wayne Peterson, 39, of Pollock, S.D., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in the Linton Hospital. Douglas was born on Dec. 2, 1973, in Linton the son of Donald and Mary (Vander Vorste) Peterson. He was raised and educated in Pollock where he graduated from Pollock High School in 1992. He worked with his family at Peterson Farms Trucking. He later attended Bismarck State College where he graduated with a degree in heating and air conditioning. Doug returned to Pollock in 1996 where he worked for his dad.
Doug married Lyndel Prasek on Sept. 27, 1997, in Pollock. Following their marriage, he worked for Dakota Stainless. Together they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Bailey born on Sept. 30, 1999, and Mary born on Dec. 27, 2002. Doug and Lyndel moved to Bismarck in 2003 where he worked for Coca-Cola. They returned to Pollock where they owned and operated the Sandbar and the Fin-N-Feather. It was at the Fin-N-Feather that he perfected his steak grilling. He also ran his dad’s stack mover. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a member of Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Son’s of American Legion and the Pollock Men’s Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lyndel, Pollock; two daughters, Bailey Dacota (13) and Mary Margaret (9), both of Pollock; his father and stepmother, Donald Peterson (Judy Umber), Strasburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick and Jackie Peterson, Gillette, Wyo., and Dan and Sheila Peterson, Gillette; one sister and brother-in-law, Tori and Terry Madden, Mound City, S.D.; mother-in-law, Betty Prasek, Pollock; father-inlaw, Delbert (Peggy) Prasek, Bismarck; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Brenda Hague (Tan Davis), Pollock, and Rhonda (Clay) Ulrich, Bismarck and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; a brother, Chuck Peterson; his grandparents, John and Leona Peterson and Ted and Margaret Vander Vorste.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Pollock High School, Pollock with the Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Organist was Julie Borr. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Special music was “Turn the Page,” “Till it Shines,” “Comin’ Home” and “Famous Final Scene.” Ushers were Dan Ryckman, KJ Moser, Matthew Renner and Allen Reierson.
Casketbearers were Larry Umber Jr., Chuck Madden, Mike Meyer, Robbie Streeter, Derrick Peterson, Paul Van Beek, Bailey Dacota Peterson, Mary Margaret Peterson and Ort Dykema.
Honorary casketbearers were family, friends, nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock.
