Bayside Oahe Resort holds Deer Antler Scoring Contest

The 2012 Big Buck Contest sponsored by Bayside Oahe Resort and the Emmons County Wildlife Club awarded $750 in cash prizes to four winners, and many door prizes were drawn for those who signed up for the contest and attended. The event was held Sunday, Dec. 2, at the resort on Lake Oahe.

Winners included: First Place—Kevin Heer of Linton, 155 and 1/8 pts.; Second Place—Bruce Martin of Linton, 169 and 7/8 pts., Third Place—Ricky Schumacher of Bismarck, 171 and 1/8 pts., and Sixth Place—John Ohlhauser of Linton, 150 and 5/8 pts.The top three prizes were awarded in reverse order of how their buck antlers were rated in points.

Donors included the Emmons County Wildlife Club, Jack’s Electric, A Touch of Honey, Bank of Hazelton, C&L Roofing, GL Landscaping, Jerome Distributing, KQ94 Radio, FSA, Mr. Kevin’s Tae Kwon Do, Ritz Gallery & Gifts Coffee Shop, KEM Electric, Inc., Linton Food Center, Strasburg State Bank, Don’s Motel, Kimble’s Guns & Repair, Bosch’s Meat Market, R&K Equipment, Sayler Implement, Thrifty White Drug of Linton, Webo’s Restaurant, Linton Floral ‘N More, and Berger Farrier Service.

He is an official measurer for Boone & Crockett (gun), Pope & Young (archery), Longhunters (muzzleloader) and the North Dakota Record Book (Lyle Hanson of Jamestown).

The contest was open to anyone with a valid North Dakota or South Dakota license, and the antlers had to be tagged. The contest was limited to whitetail bucks, so their were 19 entries, but only 14 scored.

Bayside Oahe Resort gave away door prizes and donated a trip (including companion airfare), with the winner’s choice of one of several locations in either Nevada or Missouri. Shyanne Berger of Linton drew the winning ticket, which was awarded to Jeremy Haid of Linton.

Bayside Oahe Resort gave away several door prizes, and Payton Masset, son of Chuck and Annie Masset of Linton, proudly displays the cap he received as a door prize.
