Jan. 11, 2003 (LINTON)— Junior guard Carissa Schatz recorded her 1,000th career point, and the Linton Lady Lions rolled to a 68-42 victory over the Kulm Lady Gophers. Schatz, who set a team record with 7 three-pointers in the game, finished with a gamehigh 29 points, while Lacy Dockter scored 16 points, and Ashlee Bodvig netted 8 for the Lady Lions. Amber Land paced Kulm with 21 points, and Mandy Lundgren added 14 points for the Lady Gophers.

20 YEARS AGO

Jan. 9, 1993 ( MANDAN) —Galyn Wentz tallied 18 points, and James Silvernagel and Milton Keller each scored 15 points, as Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock rolled to a 70-45 victory over the Golden Valley-Dodge Cougars for the championship of the Shiloh Christian Invitational Tournament. Deon Hammer and Jeremiah Opp chipped in 8 and 6 points, respectively, for the Tigers, and Chad Morsette scored 15 points to lead GV-Dodge.

35 YEARS AGO

Jan. 7, 1978 (LINTON)— Gary Buechler hit a jumper with 4 seconds left, and added a free throw after a Linton turnover to clinch a 56-53 victory for Strasburg in the championship game of the Emmons County Boys Basketball Tournament. Buechler led all scorers with 22 points, while Glen Scherr and Randy Mattern netted 10 points apiece for the Clippers. Paul Balliet led Linton with 15 points, while Brian Schmaltz and Brian Sauter chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lions. Bryan Kuhn scored 22 points, and Tom Leier (12) and Jim Keller (10) also scored in double figures to lead Braddock to a 58-44 victory over Hazelton for third place. Mark Schmidt led Hazelton with 12 points. In the fifth place game, Mark Fischer pumped in a gamehigh 26 points to lead Hague to a 57-49 victory over Emmons Central. Dennis Schall and Tim Volk added 8 and 6 points, respectively, for the Patriots. Dave Bachmeier scored 19 points, and Tim Wikenheiser and Darrel Horner scored 10 points apiece for the Knights.
