Jan. 25, 2003 (GARRISON)— Linton-HMB had five individual champions and placed second in the Velva-Garrison Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Champions for Linton-HMB were Matt Reiner (135), Jon Schatz (140), Ben Imdieke (152), Jeremy Bitz (215) and Mark Feist (275). Other place winners for Linton-HMB were Danny Imdieke (4th at 103), Ryan Nagel (3rd at 125) and Preston Leier (3rd at 130).

25 YEARS AGO

January 26, 1988 (LINTON)— Five Linton players scored in double figures and the Lions outlasted Gackle, 92-88, in overtime. Duke Rosendahl scored 25 points, while Jamie Gimbel and Eric Koppelman added 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Linton. Conway Draeger and Russ Lawler chipped in 12 points apiece for the Lions. Ross Kleingartner scored a game-high 36 points for Gackle, and Kevin Eberle tallied 27 points for the Orioles.

40 YEARS AGO

Jan. 27, 1973 (HAZELTON)— Wayne Kleppe, Ronnie Hager and Howard Leier combined for 45 points to lead Braddock to a 55-52 victory over Strasburg for the championship of the Emmons County Boys’ Basketball Tournament. Kleppe led the way with 17 points, while Leier and Hager scored 14 points apiece for the Bobcats. John Nieuwsma scored a game-high 18 points for Strasburg, and Carl Buechler netted 14 points for the Clippers. Hazelton defeated Hague, 54-15, in the playin game, and Braddock edged Emmons Central, 53-51, in one semi-final, and Strasburg reached the championship with a 62-35 win over Hazelton. Emmons Central posted a 58-44 win over Hazelton for third place in the tournament.
