Eugene Nolz, 90, of Zeeland


Eugene Nolz Eugene Nolz Eugene Nolz, 90, of Zeeland died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Linton Hospital.

Eugene was born April 22, 1922, on a farm south of Zeeland the son of Andrew and Anna (Feist) Nolz.

He attended school in Zeeland. Eugene was the oldest of 11 children.

Eugene married Rose Ilene Jung on Jan. 28, 1947, and they farmed east of Zeeland. They later moved to a farm seven miles east of Zeeland along the South Dakota Border. In 1979, he harvested his last crop and moved to Aberdeen, S.D.

In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golf, building wood crafts, and playing pool and cards at the Senior Center. He spent many hours volunteering to read to the elderly and delivering Senior Meals on Wheels.

He also had a big garden which he shared with his neighbors. He enjoyed going to Mass and said the Rosary daily. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Aberdeen and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

In 2011, Eugene and Rose moved back to the farm in Zeeland, where he enjoyed looking at the crops and the cattle and bird-watching. He built Martin bird houses and was always happy to see them come in the spring.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Rose; their children, Mary and Damian Weber, Plantation, Fla., Tom Nolz and Kathi (Brady) Garretson, S.D., Pauline and Wayne Filson, Wright City, Mo., Eugene, Jr., and Brenda Nolz, Zeeland, Sharon and Patrick Wolf, Zeeland, Rose Grimes, Wright City, and David Nolz, Zeeland; grandchildren, Damian, Jr., Jeremy, Jared, Samantha, Ryan, Amy, Katie, Rebecca, Michael, Nicole, Rachel, Andy, Amanda, John, Kurt, Savannah, Evan, Alexandra, Sarah and Cassie; 13 greatgrandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Joseph Nolz, Napoleon, Francis and Anna Nolz, Linton, Pius Nolz, Wells, Nev., Andrew and Liz Nolz, Marion, Iowa; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Ray Wolf, Zeeland, Jerome Senger, Strasburg and Eileen Krum, Bismarck.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew andAnna Nolz, his son, Ralph Nolz; brothers, Aloysius Nolz, Leo Nolz, Martin Nolz; sisters, Rose Marie Nolz,Annie Senger and son-in-law, Shawn Grimes.

KC Rosary/Vigil service was held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Zeeland at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, led by St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus.

Funeral Mass was held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Zeeland, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan 26, with celebrant Fr. Wenceslaus Katanga. Pianist was Alexandra Wolf. Vocal music was by the church choir. Scripture Readers were Savannah Wolf, Rachel Nolz, Sarah and Cassie Williams. Gift bearers were Nicole Weigel, Rebecca Twellman and Katie Tharp. Communion minister was Junior Nolz. Mass servers were Seth Aberle and Jordan Pfeifer.

Entrance Song was “You Are Mine.”

Music was “On Eagles’ Wings,” “I am The Bread of Life,” “Song of Farewell” and “Soon and Very Soon.”

Casketbearers were Evan Wolf, Jared Nolz, Michael Filson, Eric Twellman, Chris Weigel and Damian Weber Jr.

Interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Zeeland.
