JayCee Richter wins title in State Elks Hoop Shoot


JayCee Richter JayCee Richter JayCee Richter of Linton captured first place in the North Dakota State Elks Hoop Shoot, which was held in Jamestown on Saturday, Jan. 19.

JayCee, the daughter of Jon and Jaime Richter of Linton, captured first place in the Girls 8-9 Year-Old Division in the State Hoop Shoot, and she will represent North Dakota and the Bismarck- Mandan Elks Lodge #1199 when she participates at the regional level.

The Northwest Central Regional Elks “Hoop Shoot” will be held on Saturday, March 2, in Rapid City, S.D.

The Elks “Hoop Shoot” consists of three age divisions— 8-9, 10-11 and 12- 13—for both boys and girls, and the winners of the regional contests will advance to the National Elks “Hoop Shoot” in Springfield, Mass., April 25-28.

Now in its 41st year, the Elks “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw Contest has seen more than 107 million participants since its inception, making it the largest coeducational youth sports program in the nation.

Funded entirely by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Elks “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw Contest has served as a testing ground for sports legends such as NBA stars Trajan Langdon (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Chris Mullen (Golden State Warriors); Iowa Head Coach and former Indiana standout Steve Alford; WNBA 2001 Rookie of the Year Jackie Stiles, former North Carolina State star Jennifer Howard, and former Chicago White Sox third baseman Chris Snopek.
