The Lady Lions improved to 3-1 in District 6 and 7-3 overall with the victory, while South Border dropped to 4-7 on the season, including a 0-3 mark in District 6 play.

Both teams struggled on the offensive end the entire game, but South Border went scoreless for over 7:00 during the first period, while Amber Umber and McKenna Flyberg each hit a three-pointer to help Linton-HMB open up a 9-2 advantage with 2:30 left in the period. The Lady Lions would take an 11-4 advantage into the second period, as South Border failed to hit a field goal (0 for 10), and the Lady Mustangs only points of the first period came on two free throws each by Kalli Scherbenske and Blaire Schnabel.

Baskets by Madison Schnabel and Scherbenske completed an 8-0 run that cut the lead to 24-22 with 3:30 left, and Linton-HMB couldn’t get on the board until Larson sank a pair of free throws at the 3:06 mark.

South Border kept the pressure on, and the Lady Mustangs closed within a point (28-27) on Raechelle Salzer’s three-point play with 2:00 left in the period. However, Rachal Umber finally notched Linton-HMB’s first field goal of the half on its next trip, and after Salzer hit a free throw for South Border, Flyberg canned a three-pointer to extend the lead to 33-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Linton-HMB scored the first 9 points of the final period to complete a 14-1 run, and Flyberg’s basket gave the Lady Lions their biggest lead (42-28) of the game with 5:22 remaining. An 8-2 run by South Border over the next 2:00 closed the margin to 44-36, but that would be as close as the game would get the rest of the way, and Linton-HMB opened up a 51-38 advantage on Amber Umber’s 3-point play with just 1:05 left.

Linton-HMB hit on just a third (16 of 48) of its field goal attempts in the game, but the Lady Lions went 6 for 14 (43%) on three-pointers and connected on 13 of 20 (65%) free throws. South Border hit 10 of 15 (67%) free throws, but the Lady Mustangs connected on just 16 of 52 (31%) field goals, including just 3 of 11 (27%) three-point attempts. Both teams were fairly even in rebounds and turnovers for the game.

Flyberg tallied 8 points, 6 rebounds and a game-high 5 assists, Gerving netted 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and Alex Umber chipped in 6 points (all in the fourth quarter) and 7 rebounds for the Lady Lions. Scherbenske and Madison Schnabel paced South Border with 12 points apiece.
