2013 District 6 Boys’ Basketball Tourney begins Feb. 16 at Napoleon

The 2013 District 6 Boys’ Basketball Tournament will tip off on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Napoleon High School Gymnasium, and the tournament will continue Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 18 and 19.

Action begins on Saturday (Feb. 16) with 4th-seeded Kidder County (9-9; 3-7) taking on 5th-seeded Napoleon (5-13; 2-8) at 6 p.m. Kidder County defeated Napoleon (51-45 and 33-27) in both of their district meetings this season, while Napoleon defeated Kidder County, 45-37, during the Stutsman County Tournament in December. Twenty minutes after the conclusion of the first game, 2nd-seeded South Border (10-9; 6-4) will take on 6th-seeded Central Prairie (2-17; 1-9), with the winner advancing to the championship and clinching a berth in the Region 3 Tournament. South Border defeated Central Prairie (67-47 and 54-35) in both of their regular-season meetings.

Action continues on Monday (Feb. 18) with the championship semi-finals, which begin at 6 p.m. with the winner of Kidder County and Napoleon taking on topseeded Linton-HMB (15-4; 9-1). Linton-HMB defeated Kidder County (69-52 and 59-58) and Napoleon (53-23 and 69-40) twice each in their regular-season meetings.

In the second game, which is slated for 7:30 p.m., 2ndseeded Strasburg-Zeeland (16-2; 9-1) will take on the winner of South Border and Central Prairie. Srasburg- Zeeland defeated both South Border (61-50 and 54-45) and Central Prairie (69-51 and 69-42) twice in their regularseason meetings.

The championship round begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 19) with the first of two region qualifying games. The first region qualifier game will match the loser of the second semi-final game on Monday with the loser of the Kidder County/Napoleon quarterfinal game. The second region qualifier game is slated for 6 p.m. and will match the loser of the first semi-final game on Monday with the loser of the South Border/Central Prairie quarterfinal game.

If the winners of the region qualifier games have met in the district tournament, the team that won will be the 3rd seed in the regional. If they did not meet in the district tournament, the higher seeded team of the two will be the number three seed in the regional.

The District 6 Tournament

Championship Game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m., with the contestants already gaining a berth in the Region 3 Tournament. Following the championship game, awards will be presented to the District 6 Outstanding Senior Player and Coach of Year, and the 2013 All-District 6 team will be announced.

Admission for the tournament will be $6 for adults and $4 for students (K-12). Napoleon School Superintendent Bob Dietchman is the District 6 Tournament Manager. Officials for the tournament will be Scott McPherson, Jared Nitschke and Chris Zenker.

Region 3 Tournament

The Region 3 Boys’ Basketball Tournament quarterfinals (Feb. 25), semi-finals (Feb. 26) and championship (Feb. 28) rounds will be held at the Jamestown Civic Center. The seeding and times for the Region 3 quarterfinals will be as follows:

District 6 #1 vs. District 5 #4 3 p.m.

District 5 # 2 vs. District 6 # 3 (25 minutes after completion of previous game).

District 5 # 1 vs. District 6 # 4 (25 minutes after completion of previous game).

District 6 # 2 vs. District 5 # 3 (25 minutes after completion of previous game).
