Linton-HMB outlasts Ellendale in overtime
In a defensive struggle, Linton- HMB outlasted Ellendale, 42-39, in overtime in Ellendale on Feb. 14. The victory left the Lady Lions and Ellendale with identical, 12-5 records on the season.
Ellendale used a 17-11 run in the second period to move in front, 23-22, at halftime, but the game was tied at the end of the third (29-29) and fourth (34-34) quarters, sending the game into overtime. Alex Umber tallied three field goals to account for 6 points in the extra session to help the Lady Lions pull out a 42-39 victory.
Linton-HMB hit on just 13 of 49 (27%) field goals in the game, but the Lady Lions connected on 5 of 12 (42%) three-pointers and sank 11 of 15 (73%) free throws in the game. Ellendale hit on 18 of 21 (86%) free throws and held a 31-27 advantage in rebounds, but the Lady Cardinals shot just 23 percent (10 of 43) from the floor, including a 1 of 9 (11%) showing from behind the arc.
McKenna Flyberg finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Umber netted 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Linton-HMB. Tiffaney Gerving added 4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists,
Amber Umber chipped in 3 points and 3 steals, and Kaidra Larson pulled down 6 rebounds for the Lady Lions.
Madelyn Bommersbach went 10 for 10 from the free throw line and scored 18 points for Ellendale. Dacey Fuller and Kirsten Rall scored 6 points apiece, Rachel Herman netted 5, and Isabel Wedell chipped in 4 points to complete the scoring for the Lady Cardinals.
