Region I continues dominance in State Wrestling Tourney

South Border captured its third straight State Dual Tournament title, as well as the Individual Tournament crown during the State Class B Wrestling Tournament in Fargo last weekend. South Border continued a string of 12 straight years that a team from Region I has captured the State Dual and Individual Tournament titles. Napoleon won six consecutive Individual and Dual titles from 2002-07; Lisbon won both titles in 2008; Oakes won the Individual Tournament title from 2009-2012; and the Tornadoes also won the Dual Tournament crown in 2009 and 2010. South Border has defeated a Region I team in each of the last three State Dual Championship matches, including a 50-15 victory over Region I runner-up Linton-HMB this season. Four Region 1 teams (South Border, Lisbon, Oakes and Linton-HMB) finished in the top six in the Individual team standings in this year’s tournament, and the tournament included 15 individual finalists and seven champions from Region I teams. Above, wrestlers from South Border and Linton-HMB pose for a photo following the State Dual Championship Match.
