Young anglers have fun at Rice Lake
Lots of fun was had and fish were caught at the Youth Fishing Event at Rice Lake on Sat., Feb. 16, sponsored by the Emmons County Farmers Union and the Strasburg Wildlife Club. There were 114 youth registered and 51 adults, and they were treated to food and prizes, with the weigh-in held at Don Erbele farm. The youth came from Strasburg, Linton, Hazelton, Hague, Zeeland, Bismarck, Mandan, Wishek, Hazen, Jamestown and Fargo in North Dakota as well as Pollock and Mound City in South Dakota and Moorhead, Minn.
Warren Wangler of Linton caught the largest northern, 5.86 lbs. He is pictured with Andrew Vetter.
Michael Ryckman of Strasburg caught the largest walleyes, 1.58 and 1.49 lbs. With him is his mother, Stephanie, and Darius Aberle of the Farmers Union.
Aden Schatz of Linton and Sawyer Johnson of Pollock (not pictured) tied for the largest perch at .44 lb. With Aden is Farmers Union member Cary Moch.
With all the anglers, it was like a small city on Rice Lake.
Andrew Vetter gave old-fashioned sleigh rides to the delight of the children.
