2013 District 6 Girls’ Basketball Tourney tips off Friday in Wishek
The 2013 District 6 Girls’ Basketball Tournament will tip off Friday, March 1, at the Wishek High School Gymnasium. Games will continue on Saturday (March 2), and the tournament will conclude on Monday, March 4.
Action begins on Friday (March 1) with 4th-seeded Strasburg-Zeeland (9-10; 4-6) taking on 5th-seeded South Border (7-12; 3-7) at 6 p.m. Strasburg-Zeeland defeated South Border twice (62-37 and 49-48) this season. Twenty minutes after the conclusion of the first game, 3rd-seeded Kidder County (11-7; 6-4) will take on 6thseeded Central Prairie (3-16; 0-10) in the other quarterfinal game. South Border won both of its meetings (56-38 and 59-49) with Central Prairie this season.
Action continues on Saturday (March 2) with the championship semi-finals, which begin at 6 p.m. with the winner of Strasburg-Zeeland and South Border taking on top-seeded Napoleon (17-1; 10-0). Napoleon defeated Strasburg-Zeeland (89-31 and 58-48) and South Border (64-46 and 72-59) each twice in their regular-season meetings.
In the second game, which is slated for 7:30 p.m., 2ndseeded Linton-HMB (13-6; 7-3) will take on the winner of Kidder County and Central Prairie. Linton-HMB (27-24) and Kidder County (42-33) split their two regular-season meetings, and Linton-HMB defeated Central Prairie (52- 40 and 56-28) in both regularseason meetings.
The championship round begins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday (March 4) with the first of two region qualifying games. The first region qualifier game will match the loser of the second semi-final game on Saturday with the loser of the Strasburg-Zeeland/South Border quarterfinal game. The second region qualifier game is slated for 6 p.m. and will match the loser of the first semi-final game on Saturday with the loser of the Kidder County/Central Prairie quarterfinal game.
If the winners of the region qualifier games have met in the district tournament, the team that won will be the 3rd seed in the regional. If they did not meet in the district tournament, the higher seeded team of the two will be the number three seed in the regional.
The District 6 Tournament Championship Game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m., with the contestants already gaining a berth in the Region 3 Tournament. Following the championship game, awards will be presented to the 2013 District 6 Outstanding Senior Player and 2103 District 6 Coach of Year, and the 2012-13 All-District 6 team will be announced.
Admission for the tournament will be $6 for adults and $4 for students (K-12). Kidder County Athletic Director Monty Mayer is the District 6 Chairman, and Wishek School Superintendent Shawn Kuntz is the District 6 Tournament Manager. Officials for the tournament will be Scott McPherson, Lynn Gress, Chris Zenker and Rory Entzi.
