Do you have a question?

I am taking questions from my patients and the general public and will be answering them in this column. You likely will have a similar question that someone else may be wondering about. Your name will remain completely confidential and will not be included in the article. Feel free to call 701-754- 2345, email me at drweigel@totallifechiro.net, or mail me a question at PO Box 28, Napoleon, ND 58561 about specific conditions, general health, chiropractic or any other relevant subject and I will answer them for you.

Here is one of the questions I have received.

How Does My

Lower Back Affect

My Overall Health?”

Bad breath, hormone imbalances, food sensitivities and/or digestive issues could signal a malfunction or subluxation in your nervous system at the upper lumbar region. Your lumbar vertebrae are located in your lower back below the ribs and above your tailbone. We all have 5 lumbar vertebrae which we refer to as L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5.

According to the Neuro- Anatomy chart, the nerves at L1 supply the Ileoccecal Valve which is the valve between large and small intestines. If there is a subluxation or misalignment at L1, it can affect the function of your bowels. The bowels eliminate the waste from our bodies, and if they are not working properly, toxins build up and can cause a variety of health conditions including bad breath, gas, headache, fatigue, dark circles under the eyes and abdominal pain. A subluxation at L1 can be caused by the body not eliminating toxins properly through the bowel or it can cause the body to not eliminate toxins the way it should be.

The nerves at L2 supply the Cecum, also known as the small intestine. The function of the small intestine is to absorb the nutrients into your body. Common symptoms of a subluxation at L2 are digestive complaints (usually 1-2 hours after eating), problems with weight management and digestive reactions to certain foods. The nerve root from L2 also involves the group of nerves which affect all the organs in both the upper and lower abdominal area including the stomach, pancreas and gall bladder.

L3 is the spinal vertebra that is just above your belt or waist level. The nerves here supply the endocrine system which is directly related to the proper distribution of hormones in the body. If the concentration of hormones in the body is too high or too low, almost inevitably disease will result. It is very important to consider nerve system disturbance whenever there is a hormonal imbalance.

Everything in the body is inter-related and your nervous system controls every function in your body. Chiropractors are experts in health and can help you become healthier. A chiropractic adjustment is a logical first step when you are experiencing any health problems. As you can see from the information above there are many side benefits from a chiropractic adjustment. Having a properly functioning nervous system can help your body return to health, the way it was meant to be.
