Six County players selected to 2013 All-District 6 Boys’ Basketball team

Mason Ryckman, Tyler Humann and Ryan Schneider of Linton-HMB; and Kyle Nieuwsma, Cole Nieuwsma and Brody Nieuwsma of Strasburg-Zeelandwereselected to the 2012-13All-District 6 Boys’ Basketball team.

Ryckman, a senior, averaged 10.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, to go along with 18 assists and 17 steals this season for Linton-HMB. He tied for the team lead in scoring (253 pts.), and was second on the team in rebounds (137). Ryckman shot 52 percent (120 of 229) from the floor, and 63 percent (12- 19) from the line. Ryckman is a first-time All-District 6 selection, and he is the son of Dan and Sandy Ryckman.

Kyle Nieuwsma, a senior, averaged 11.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season for Strasburg-Zeeland. Kyle led the team in assists (78), and was second in scoring (273 pts.) and rebounding (128). Kyle shot 44 percent (103- 233) from the floor with 17 three-pointers, and 63 percent (50-79) from the free throw line. Kyle is a two-time All- District 6 selection, and he is the son of Duane and Sandy Nieuwsma.

Humann, a senior, averaged 10 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season for Linton-HMB. He was second on the team with 28 threepointers and 34 steals, and third on the team in scoring (238 pts.) and assists (41). Humann shot 41 percent (88 of 217) from the field, and 56 percent (34 of 61) from the line. Tyler is a first-time All-District 6 selection, and he is the son of Keith and JoAnn Humann.

Cole Nieuwsma, a senior, averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season for Strasburg-Zeeland. He led the Clippers with 133 rebounds, was second on the team field goal percentage, and third on the team in scoring (264 pts.), while picking up 17 assists and 15 steals. Cole shot 62 percent (114 of 183) from the field and 50 percent (36 of 72) from the line. Cole is a first-time All- District 6 selection, and he is the son of Lee Nieuwsma and Carrie Nieuwsma.

Schneider, a sophomore, averaged 10.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season for Linton-HMB. He was tied for the team lead in scoring (253 pts.), and led the team in rebounds (190), while collecting 28 steals and dishing out 40 assists. Schneider shot 57 percent (91 of 161) from the field, and a team-best 72 percent (71 of 99) from the line. Ryan is a first-timeAll-District 6 selection, and he is the son of Ken and Donna Schneider.

Brody Nieuwsma, a freshman, averaged 12 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game this season for Strasburg-Zeeland. He led the Clippers in scoring (289 pts.) and steals (44), was second on the team with 29 three-pointers and 76 assists, and third on the team in rebounds (114). Brody shot 47 percent (105 of 226) from the field and 65 percent (50 of 77) from the line. Brody is a first-time All-District 6 selection, and he is the son of Duane and Sandy Nieuwsma.

Remaining All-District 6 selections included Cole Scherbenske and Ryan Sand of Kidder County; Michael Jacobson of South Border, and Trent Fettig of Napoleon.

Michael Jacobson of South Borderwasselectedasthe2013 District 6 Outstanding Senior Player, and Strasburg-Zeeland Head Coach Brent Kleinsasser was selected as the 2013 District 6 Coach of the Year.
