5th District Legion meeting held
The American Legion held its 5th District meeting in Wilton on April 1. Boys State, Oratorical Contest, Baseball and other program reports were made. District Commander Lenae Schneider of Linton chaired the meeting along with Vice Commander Fred Schauer. Bruce Siler from Bismarck was elected incoming Vice Commander, and Fred Schauer of Wilton received a confirmation vote to move up to District Commander for the 2013-2014 year. State Commander Dave Rice from Harwood gave a legislative update and encouraged membership recruitment and retention within the district. The American Legion recognized SGT Zachary Landis, Bismarck, who serves in the C/2/85 AVN BN of the North Dakota Army National Guard, for his military service and thanked him for his service to the nation. SGT Landis was deployed to Iraq in 2009-2010 and is preparing to deploy to Kosovo in the near future. The American Legion serves current service members and veterans and conducts many youth programs through their 215 American Legion Posts throughout North Dakota.
