Eugene ‘Gene’ Grinsteiner, 82, of Bismarck

Eugene Grinsteiner Eugene Grinsteiner Eugene “Gene” Grinsteiner, 82, Bismarck, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at his home.

Gene was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Strasburg, the son of Wendelin and Armelia (Keller) Grinsteiner. He graduated from Linton High School.

Gene was employed at N.W. Bell Telephone Co. starting in 1950, in Bismarck, where he was employed for 35 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October 1951, served at Oklahoma City Tinker Field, at Japan and Korea and returned to Mobile, Ala., to finish his enlistment. Gene returned to Bismarck to further his employment with N.W. Bell Telephone Co. During his stay at Oklahoma City, he married Rose Bachmeier in 1953 at St. Philips-Meir Catholic Church. Rose died March 6, 1992, after a lengthy illness.

Gene married Phyllis Baskerville on June 18, 2000, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Phyllis died on April 1, 2009.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Della (Michael) Friesz, Bismarck; sons, Douglas (Sharon) Grinsteiner, Mandan, David (Beverly) Grinsteiner, Grand Junction, Colo., Daniel (Vonnie) Grinsteiner, Bismarck, John (Barb) Grinsteiner, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his step-children, Cathy Wagner, Jamestown, James Baskerville, St. Louis, Mo., Dan Baskerville, Mandan, Mike Baskerville, Fargo, Charles Baskerville, Grand Forks, Tomas Baskerville, Columbia, S.C.; 14 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Cathy Schacht, Eugene, Ore., Helen Magilke, Lincoln, and Florence Hauer, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his second wife, Phyllis; his brothers, Joseph and Mark; his little sister, Alice (6 months old); his parents, Wendelin andArmelia; and his grandparents.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Grade School.
