L-HMB’s Clay Jacob selected to play in 2013 Shrine All-Star Football Classic

Clay Jacob; OG-LB Linton-HMB Clay Jacob; OG-LB Linton-HMB Linton-HMB’s Clay Jacob was selected to play for the 11-Man East squad in the 40th Annual Shrine All-Star Football Classic, which will be held on Saturday, July 20, at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

Jacob, a senior offensive guard and linebacker, was a three-year starter on both sides of the ball for Linton-HMB. Jacob led the team in solo (29), assisted (67) and total tackles (96) from his linebacker position, and he also had 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery. Jacob was the team leader in defensive points with 115. Clay was a 2012 Class A All-State selection at linebacker. He was an All-Region 1 selection in 2012, and an honorable mentionAll-Region 1 selection in 2011. Clay is the son of Gerard and Lori Jacob of Linton.

Other Class A Region 1 players on the 11-Man East squad include Trent Ptacek of Oakes, Jordan Haseleu of Maple Valley/Enderlin, and Zach Drevlow of Milnor/North Sargent.

The remainder of the 11- Man East team roster includes Ross Radenmacher and Martin Ausk of Central Cass; Chase Johnson and Shane Ebertz of Devils Lake; Trevor Raymond, Zach Reich, Austin Wickland and Josh Verghis of Fargo South; Christian Lunde and Zach Peterson of Grafton; Austin Winnege and Colter Pritchard of Langdon-Munich; P. J. Peterson and Wyatt Morten of Larimore; Brody Mertz, Drew Johnson and Caleb Mattila of West Fargo; Eric Peterson of Fargo Davies, Matt Connelly of Fargo North, Josh Berg of Fargo Shanley, Rylie Devier of Grand Forks Central, Loren Bothun of Grand Forks Red River, Trevor Anderson of Griggs-Barnes County, Michael Waltz of Kindred, Nathan Mangin of Lisbon, Ryan Ust of Mayville-Portland/ Clifford-Galesburg, Nick Schmitz of Midway-Minto, Chad Jelinek of Park River/ Fordville-Lankin,Taylor Lentz of Valley City, Tylrer Ringdahl of Wahpeton, and Karlie Hancock of Westhope-Newburg.

Troy Mattern of Fargo South will be the head coach for the 11-Man East team, and he will be assisted by Josh Krivarchka of Langdon-Munich, Patrick Metzger of Central Cass, and Paul Peterson of Larimore.

Members of all four (11- Man East and West; and 9-Man East and West) teams will report to Mayville State University on Monday, July 15, and they will practice at MSU throughout the week. The Shrine 11-Man All-Star Game will kick off at 4 p.m. at the Alerus Center, and the 9-Man game will kick off at 7 p.m., on July 20.
