Spring Fling set in Ashley

The Annual Spring Fling will be held Thurs., May 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Ashley.

It is a free event open to anyone with an interest in horticulture. There will be lots of door prizes as well as educational booths/area vendors advertising their services. There will be free Extension publications and lots of other information on gardening, flowers, trees and food and nutrition, as well as information/ discussion about the community garden to be started in Ashley.

There will also be lots of time for discussion and questions and answers.

The following is a list of speakers and their topics. Tom Kalb, Extension Horticulture Specialist, will be speaking on Starting a Backyard Orchard. Kathy Wiederholt, NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center, will be talking about fruit research. Tom Rude will talk about keeping trees happy and healthy through correct applications of fertilizer, pruning and tree placement. Terry Gropper will discuss purchasing trees from the Soil Conservation District and the McIntosh County Extension Service, NRCS and SCD staff will talk about theAshley community garden project.

A free, light supper will be served, although freewill offerings will be accepted.
