Area teams take part in New Salem Track Meet
Linton-HMB, Strasburg and Zeeland were among 28 teams competing in the New Salem-Almont Invitational Track Meet, held May 4, at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
In the Boys’ Division, Linton-HMB scored 27 points to finish in 12th place, while Zeeland finished in 23rd place with 6.5 points. Hazen captured the title in the Boys’ Division with 89.5 points, followed by Bowman County (65), Dickinson Trinity (59), Killdeer (58) and Watford City (48). Strasburg did not score in the Boys’ Division.
Jon Purintun placed in three individual events for Linton-HMB. He placed 4th in the triple jump (39' 2.5"), and 6th in both the high jump (5' 4") and 110-meter hurdles (:18.53). Ryan Schneider placed 3rd in the 1,600-meter run (4:55.31); James Vetter placed 6th in the 800-meter run (2:12.85);Austin Schell placed 7th in the 110-meter hurdles (:18.54); and James Schmaltz placed 7th in the 800-meter run (2:13.35). Linton-HMB (Rylan Jacob, James Schmaltz, Ryan Schneider, Brock Nagel) placed 6th in the 1,600-meter (3:52.04) relay. Zeeland’s points came on a 3rd place finish by Andy Nolz in the 800-meter run (2:10.64), and Seth Aberle tied for 8th place in the high jump (5' 2").
Linton- HMB ( 19) and Strasburg (17.5) finished 14th and 15th, respectively, while Zeeland scored 6 points to place 23rd in the Girls’ Division. Watford City won the Girls’ title with 85 points, while Hazen finished second with 69 points. Dickinson Trinity and Bowman County each scored 54 points to finish in a tie for 3rd, and Shiloh Christian (51) rounded out the top five teams.
Courtney Bubach placed in four events to account for all of Strasburg’s scoring. She placed 3rd in both the 100-meter hurdles (:17.32) and triple jump (33' 6.5"), 7th in the long jump (15' 7.5"), and tied for 5th in the pole vault (7' 6").
Linton-HMB’s Paulina Haak placed 2nd in the discus (101' 9") and 8th in the shot put (30' 10"); while teammate Morgan Holzer placed 8th in the long jump (15' 7"). Linton-HMB also placed 5th in the 3,200-meter relay (Tiffaney Gerving, Amber Umber, Rachal Umber, Marley Click) with a time of 11:30.28, and 6th in the 800-meter relay (AlLee Vetter, Jadyn Gefroh, Morgan Holzer, Megan Martell) with a time of 1:58.00. Christina Aberle accounted for Zeeland’s 6 points by placing 3rd in the discus (97' 6").
