Linton-HMB, Strasburg and Zeeland compete in Eureka Legion Track Meet
Strasburg, Linton-HMB and Zeeland took part in the Eureka (SD) American Legion Track Meet on May 7.
In the Girls’ Division, Strasburg (41) and Linton-HMB (34) placed 9th and 10th, respectively, in the 15-team field. South Dakota teams took the top five places in the team standings, with Ipswich winning the title with 167.5 points. Potter County (104), Herreid-Selby Area (72), Mobridge-Pollock (67) and Warner (56.5) rounded out the top five teams.
Courtney Bubach placed in four events for Strasburg, including the title in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.34). Bubach also placed second in both the 300-meter hurdles (:50.65) and long jump (15' 10.75"), and third in the triple jump (33' 2"). Emily Luebke made up the rest of the Lady Clipper’s scoring by placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (:18.14) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (:57.20).
The bulk of Linton-HMB’s scoring came in relay events, where the Lady Lions placed 3rdinthe800-meter(1:57.65), 5th in the 400-meter (:55.61), 1,600-meter (5:06.00) and 3,200-meter (11:25.25); and 7th in the 1,600-meter sprint medley (5:11.06). Individually, Morgan Holzer placed 4th in the long jump (15' 3"), Paulina Haak placed 5th in the discus (112' 0"), AlLee Vetter placed 7th in the 400-meter dash (1:08.85), and Rylee Kelsch (:23.31) and Sierra Bosch (:23.78) placed 7th and 8th, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles.
Zeeland’s only scoring in the Girls’ Division came on an 8th place finish by Kara Weigel in the triple jump (31' 6").
Linton- HMB scored 42 points to finish 8th in the Boys’ Division. Potter County won the Boys’ team title with 110 points, followed by Mobridge-Pollock (87.5), Herreid-Selby Area (83), Ipswich (79) and Eureka-Bowdle (71.5). Zeeland scored 15 points, and Strasburg netted 7 points.
Linton-HMB picked up 24 points in the relays, as the Lions placed 2nd in the 3,200-meter (8:50.37), 3rd in the 1,600-meter sprint medley (4:12.79), and 4th in both the 400-meter (:47.17) and 800-meter (1:40.45) events. Ryan Schneider placed 2nd in the 1,600-meter run (5:01.46), Tayler Wetzsteon (:55.95) and John Glatt (:56.12) placed 5th and 6th, respectively, in the 400-meter run; and Ethen Roemmich (107' 6") and Garret Roemmich (105' 8") placed 7th and 8th, respectively, in the discus.
For Zeeland, Andy Nolz placed 2nd in the 800-meter run (2:17.12), Joseph Krumm placed 7th in both the 400-meter dash (:56.41) and the 300-meter hurdles (:49.49), and the Vikings placed 6th in the 1,600-meter relay (4:06.97).
Strasburg’s points came on a 7th place finish by Jordan Nieuwsma in the high jump (5' 6"), an 8th place finish by Teddie Lawler in the long jump (17' 1"), and 7th place finishes by the Clippers in the 3,200-meter (10:21.30) and 1,600-meter sprint (4:30.00) relays.
