Strasburg’s Bubach qualifies for State Meet in triple jump
Strasburg’s Courtney Bubach qualified for state in the triple jump during the Eureka (SD) Lions Club Track Meet on May 11. Bubach won the event with a state-qualifying jump of 34 feet, 1.5 inches. Bubach also won the 100-meter (:16.24) and 300-meter (:49.67) hurdle events, and placed second in the long jump (15' 5"). Bubach qualified for the State Track Meet in both hurdle events at earlier meets.
Emily Luebke of Strasburg placed second in both the 100-meter (:18.23) and 300-meter (:55.87) hurdles, and she placed 6th in the long jump (13' 1") to give Strasburg 57 points, which was good for 5th place in the Girls’ Division.
South Dakota teams took the first four spots in both divisions, with Ipswich running away on the Girls’ side with 186 points. Eureka-Bowdle was second with 122 points, followed by Timer Lake (81) and Warner (73).
Kara Weigel accounted for all 11 of Zeeland’s points by placing 3rd in the long jump (14' 9") and 4th in the triple jump (31' 2.25"), and Paulina Haak scored 5 points for Linton-HMB by placing 4th in the discus (98' 9.5").
Ipswich also took top honors on the Boys’ side with 147 points, followed by Eureka-Bowdle (124), Frederick (75) and Warner (63). Linton-HMB came away with 5th place with 55 points, while Strasburg and Zeeland scored 32 and 16 points, respectively.
Linton-HMB had three double place winners at the meet. John Glatt won the 200-meter dash (:24.73) and placed 2nd in the 100-meter dash (:11.79); Ryan Schneider placed 2nd in both the 800-meter run (2:16.99) and 1,600-meter run (5:00.07); and Garret Roemmich placed 4th in the discus (116' 9") and 5th in the shot put (37' 6"). James Schmaltz placed 3rd in the 800-meter run (2:17.35), and Chase Schiele placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash (:11.83) to complete the scoring for the Lions.
Strasburg had four individual place winners, and placed in three relay events. Kendall Scherr placed 5th in the 100-meter dash (:12.18), Logan Kramer placed 5th in the long jump (16' 3.5"), Jordan Nieuwsma placed 6th in the high jump (5' 2"), and Brody Nieuwsma placed 7th in the long jump (15' 9.5"). The Clippers placed 2nd in the 800-meter relay, 3rd in the 400-meter relay, and 4th in the 1,600 sprint medley relay.
For Zeeland, Andy Nolz placed 3rd in the 1,600-meter run (5:13.53), and 6th in both the 400-meter dash (:58.37) and long jump (16' 2.5"). Seth Aberle placed 5th in the high jump (5' 4") to complete the Viking’s scoring.
