Strasburg First Graders win Reading Iditarod Race
In kindergarten through sixth grade, Strasburg Elementary students competed in “April is Reading Month.” The top reader in each class was treated to lunch by the Strasburg PTA at The Galley in Strasburg with School Supt. Mary Larson. Students are, left to right, Kindergartner Becky Lauinger, First Grader Brock Tougas, Second Grader Lilly Haak, Third Grader Shelby Vander Vorst, Fourth Grader Kasandra Hulm, Fifth Grader Jason Huizenga and Sixth Grader Alex Scherr. Mrs. Larson said they are very proud of these diligent readers and encourage all their students to spend their summer with a good book.
Strasburg Elementary School students completed “April is Reading Month” and classes competed in a reading Iditarod race. The first grade class won the race with reading a total of 7,390 minutes in April. In second place was the fourth grade class with 6,571 minutes. They were the leaders until the last week in April when the first graders sprinted ahead of them. The class was treated to a pizza lunch provided by Strasburg PTA.
