Frank Gabriel, 90, formerly of Hague


Frank Gabriel Frank Gabriel Frank Gabriel, 90, formerly of Hague, made his transition from this life peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2013, in the Linton Hospital.

Frank was the fifth born to Adam and Katherine (Schmidt) Gabriel on June 22, 1922. He was born and raised on the family farm 3 1/2 miles east of Hague. He attended rural school and worked on the family farm.

Frank married Barbara Materi on Oct. 22, 1943. Following their marriage they continued farming on the family farm until he retired. Frank’s youth was filled with lots of hard work and an abundance of fun and a dash of folly.

He enjoyed farming, bowling, playing cards, horseback riding, and making mastub (conversations in German) with friends and family. In his later retired years, he took great pride in caring for his barn cats and dog, and enjoying his western movies.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Beaver Valley Horse Club.

Frank is survived by five daughters, four sons-in-law; two sons and one daughter-inlaw, Darlene (Mike) Eberle of Spokane Wash., Donna (Harold) Kocher of Bismarck, Kara (friend Gary) Gabriel of Spokane, Beverly (Dirk) Kenfield of Missoula Mont., Francis (Carol) Gabriel of Bismarck, and the family farm in Hague, Janice (John) Johnson of Valley City, Darin (fiancé Darcie) Gabriel of Bismarck and the family farm in Hague. Frank is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brotherin law, Katie Klein and Helen (Wilfred) Eberle of Bismarck; four sisters- in-law, Ellen Gabriel of Arizona, Mary Martin, Mercedes Goetz of Linton, Helen Batchelor of Eugene Ore.; and many special nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara (Aug. 26, 1990), two brothers Joe Gabriel (1985) and Ambrose Gabriel (1988); two sisters, Ann Mitzel (2001), Mary Weigel (2001); and grandson Michael Gabriel (infancy). The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Strasburg Care Center for the compassionate and excellent care they provided to their father since his disabling stroke in 2006, during his final phase of his earthly journey. May he find rest and peace in the arms of his beloved wife and those of a loving God.

Funeral Mass was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hague with celebrant Fr. Jason Signalness and concelebrant Fr. Paul Eberle. Organist was Holly Krumm. Music was by the church choir. Scripture readers were Colleen Stoddart and Charlene Wagner. Gift bearers were Taylor Johnson and Sydney Wagner. Mass servers were Adam and Ben Hulm. Music was “Amazing Grace,” “I am the Bread of Life,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Casketbearers were Dalton Wagner, Jessica Gabriel, Taylor Johnson, Jennifer Gabriel, Tanner Stoddart and Adam Zimprich.

Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hague.
