Robert ‘Bobby’ Fischer, 85, of Hague

Robert Fischer Robert Fischer Robert “Bobby” Fischer, 85, of Hague died Saturday, June 8, 2013, in the Strasburg Care Center.

Bobby was born June 23, 1927, in Hague, the son of Carl and Philippine (Mitzel) Fischer. He was raised and educated in Hague. Bobby graduated from Hague High School in 1945. He served in the U.S.Army for 1 1/2 years.

Following his discharge, he returned to Hague where he worked at Schall Hardware Store.

Bobby married Phyllis Kraft on Aug. 22, 1949, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. Following their marriage, they lived in Hague where Bobby continued to work for Schall Hardware. He also owned and operated the Hague Grocery Store, was the Hague Postmaster for more than 25 years and was Hague City Auditor for 33 years. Bobby retired in 1989 but continued to live in Hague.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served in many capacities. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of Linton American Legion and Hague Amvets. Bobby enjoyed sports, playing cards, bowling and visiting with family and friends.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Phyllis, Hague; four sons and two daughters in-law, Duane Fischer, Hague, Alan Fischer, Minneapolis, Minn., Galen and Mary Fischer, Breckenridge, Minn., and Mark and Karen Fischer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Brenda Fischer, Jamestown; eight grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Tommy and Carol Fischer, and Carl A. Fischer, Jr., all of Minneapolis; and one sister, Rita Badzinski, Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence; and three sisters, Loretta Reede, Donata Price and Anna Mae Heilman.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hague with celebrant Fr. Jason Signalness. Communion minister was Viola Buechler. Organist was Deloris Wikenheiser. Music was by the church choir. Eulogy was by Melanie Robertson. Scripture reader was Emme Hulm. Gift bearers were Michon Hofmeister and Alyssa Slattum. Mass servers were Andrew and Adam Hulm. Music was “Here I am, Lord,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “One Bread, One Body” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Casketbearers were Alex Fischer, Dana Fischer, Kevin Fischer, Keith Fischer, Ethan Kocher and Jeff Robertson.

Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hague. Military Honors were by Strasburg VFW and Linton American Legion.
